With this update, your CAC check now runs in the background. You don’t need to wait on a loading screen while we verify your business details. The process continues automatically, reducing timeouts and improving your onboarding experience.

How CAC Verification Works

Step 1: Start Verification

Log in to your app.
Tap Business Basics, then select Business Information on the Business Basics page.
Enter your CAC number and choose your business registration type.

Business Name (BN)
Limited Liability
Incorporated Trustees (IT)

Your CAC number prefix must match your registration type (e.g., BN- or IT-).

Step 2: Enter Your CAC Number

Type or paste your CAC number and tap Continue.

Step 3: Verification in Progress

You’ll see “CAC Check in Progress.”

If the check takes longer than usual (about 10 seconds), it automatically continues in the background.

Possible Verification Outcomes

✅ CAC Verified Successfully

Your business details are retrieved automatically.
You’ll confirm your business details and provide your Tax ID.
You can then complete registration.

❌ CAC Verification Failed

You’ll see an option to Try Again or Get Help.
Ensure your CAC number and business type are correct.

If your CAC number is very old (e.g., registered in the 1990s) or verification fails repeatedly:

Please share a copy of your CAC certificate in the app.
Our team will confirm the registration date and assist you directly.
You’ll be guided through any next steps without needing to retry multiple times.

❌ CAC Number Not Found (“No Record Found” or “Business Not Found.”)

Double-check your CAC number.
Confirm you selected the correct business registration type.
Try again.

⏳ CAC Lookup Timed Out

If the CAC system is temporarily unavailable:

You’ll see a timeout message.
You’ll see an option to Try Again or Get Help.

This typically indicates a temporary system delay. If it continues, our support team will assist you.

🔄 Wrong Business Type Selected

If the CAC prefix does not match the selected registration type:

User sees a prompt to Change Business Type
They must select the correct type before retrying the lookup.

After Successful Verification

Once verified, the user must:

Confirm business details match CAC records.
Submit Tax ID information.
Complete remaining onboarding steps (e.g., BVN, NIN, business ownership confirmation).
Wait for business registration approval (may take 7–10 days if registration is still pending).

Key Notes

CAC verification is automated.
Lookup depends on CAC system availability.
Timeouts are system-related, not necessarily due to your error.
You can retry verification if it fails.
Your CAC number must match your selected registration type.

Failed Onboarding Scenarios

1. BVN Verification Failed

Message displayed:

“BVN Verification Failed – We couldn’t validate your BVN with NIBSS due to some errors.”

Wait a few minutes and reattempt verification

Responses may not indicate issues with your CAC number; the verification may just fail repeatedly, especially if your business was registered in the 1990s.
