To keep your business account secure, you’ll be asked to complete a selfie verification for key actions, such as onboarding and account updates. This helps us confirm that it’s really you completing the request.

When you’ll be asked to verify

You may need to complete a selfie check when:

  • Setting up your business account

  • Approving the director's actions

  • Updating your profile or making sensitive changes to your account

How it works

The selfie check includes two steps:

  • Liveness check – makes sure you’re physically present and taking the selfie in real time

  • Face match – compares your selfie with your BVN photo to confirm your identity

What to expect

  • Your camera will open with simple on-screen instructions

  • You may be asked to adjust your position or lighting

  • Most checks are completed within seconds

What happens next

  • Passed – You can continue with your request

  • Failed – You’ll be asked to try again

  • In review – Sometimes we need a little more time. We’ll notify you once it’s complete

Having trouble?

If your verification doesn’t go through:

  • Try again, making sure your photo is clear

  • If the issue continues, please contact support

Common issues and quick fixes

  • Camera not working → Enable camera access in your device settings

  • Dark or blurry image → Move to a well-lit area and hold your phone steady

  • Face not clear → Keep your face centered and remove anything covering it (like hats or glasses, if possible)

  • Poor internet connection → Switch to a stronger network

  • Using a photo instead of a live selfie → Make sure you’re taking the selfie in real time

How your data is protected

We keep your data secure with industry-standard security measures and use it for identity verification and fraud prevention.

Also, we collect what’s necessary to complete the check, such as:

  • The result of your verification (passed, failed, or in review)

  • Basic details about the attempt (like the time and date)

Note

We are not building our own selfie verification system. We use a trusted partner to run these checks securely.
