Address Verification Stuck? Tips to Avoid an "Unknown" Result

How to help your address verification complete successfully and avoid an Unknown result

Written by Nosa O

Sometimes address verification comes back as "Unknown" or stays "In Progress" for longer than expected. This doesn't mean your verification failed because of something wrong with your address — it usually means we didn't receive enough information from your device to confirm where you are.

Why This Happens

Your address is verified using location data shared by your device during the verification period. If your device doesn't share enough data during that time, we can't confirm your address — even if you actually live or work there.

Common reasons this happens:

  • Your phone was switched off, or the app was closed/uninstalled during the verification period.

  • Location permission was set to "only while using the app," so we only got a data point when you had the app open.

  • Some Android phones (especially budget models) aggressively restrict background apps to save battery, which can limit the data sent.

  • You didn't leave your home or business address at all during the verification period (more common on iPhone).

  • Your phone had no internet/data connection, or was in airplane mode, during the verification period.

How to Help Your Verification Succeed

  • Keep location access set to "Allow All the Time" (Android) or "Always Allow" (iOS) for the Kuda Business app throughout the verification period.

  • Keep the Kuda Business app installed on your device — don't uninstall it while verification is in progress.

  • Make sure your phone stays powered on and connected to the internet (mobile data or Wi-Fi) during this time.

  • If you have a budget Android phone, check your battery-saving settings and allow the Kuda Business app to run in the background without restriction.

  • Open the Kuda Business app a few times over the next couple of days — this helps us collect the information needed to verify your address, especially if you don't leave home or your business location often.

  • While you're at your business or home address, open the app and carry out an action (like checking your balance or making a transfer). Doing this while physically at the address helps confirm you're there.

What To Do If You See "Unknown"

Go to your dashboard and retry address verification, following the tips above. This usually resolves the issue. If it happens again after retrying, contact support through the Kuda app or email [email protected].

Note: Address verification is fully automated and cannot be manually sped up or overridden by Kuda Business support.
