Understanding which devices support passkeys helps you see the technical requirements needed for this security model to work. It's not arbitrary that certain devices are supported and others aren't - there are specific hardware and software capabilities required.
iOS Devices
iPhones and iPads running iOS 16 or later
Requires iCloud Keychain enabled for synchronization across Apple devices
Uses Face ID or Touch ID for authentication
iCloud Keychain is what enables your passkeys to work across all your Apple devices. Here's what happens behind the scenes. When a passkey is created on your iPhone, it's encrypted using keys derived from your device passcode and other secrets that only your devices know. This encrypted data is then synced through iCloud to your other Apple devices. When your iPad receives this encrypted passkey, it can decrypt it because it also has access to the necessary decryption keys, being another device you've authorized with your Apple ID.
Android Devices
Smartphones and tablets running Android 9 or higher
Passkeys are synchronized through Google Password Manager, ensuring you can seamlessly log in from any device where your Google account is active
Uses fingerprint or face recognition for authentication
Google Password Manager serves the same role that iCloud Keychain serves for Apple devices. Your passkeys are encrypted and synced across your Android devices that are logged into your Google account. The encryption ensures that Google doesn't have access to your private keys even though the data passes through their servers. When you set up a new Android device and log into your Google account, your passkeys automatically become available on that device after decryption.
Web Access
Supported on major browsers including Chrome, Safari, and Edge
Authentication requires scanning a QR code with a mobile device that has your passkey. This process provides a quick, secure login experience without requiring you to maintain a permanent login on the browser.
Unsupported Devices
If you're using a device that doesn't support passkeys due to hardware limitations or an outdated operating system, you'll still be able to access your Kuda Business account using our legacy authentication methods.
Can I turn off passkeys?
Disabling passkeys is not an option for Kuda Business accounts. You will need to use either the passkey login method or biometrics to access your account. This requirement ensures that all Kuda Business users benefit from the enhanced security that passkeys provide. Device Login Limitations It's important to note that you cannot be logged into your Kuda Business account on multiple devices at the same time.
If you attempt to sign in on a second device, the first device will be logged out automatically. By understanding this limitation, users can better manage their login sessions and avoid unnecessary disruptions to their business operations.
If you encounter issues with passkeys, please ensure the following steps:
